Sydney FC have defeated the Western Sydney Wanderers 3-1 in their first home derby win against the black and red.
In front of a packed out crowd of over 40 000 at Allianz Stadium, both teams were set to provide much entertainment for what proved to be an intense game of football.
Heading into the sheds at 0-0, the second half had been set up to be one full of expectations. Shinji Ono stepped up scoring to get the Wanderers out to a 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, Sydney FC keeper Vedran Janjetovic ultimately turned the game around, saving a penalty attempted by Mark Bridge, keeping his side in the game.
Goals from Matthew Jurman and Richard Garcia saw the Sky Blue take the lead with just 15 minutes remaining. Ali Abbas scored the final goal in injury time, securing Sydney FC’s first derby win.
The win takes Sydney up to fourth place, with the Wanderers still sitting in second place on the ladder with only five rounds remaining before Week 1 of the finals commences.
The Wanderers will host Adelaide United on Saturday night in their Round 23 clash.
