The Central Coast Mariners have defeated the Western Sydney Wanderers 2-1 in their last home game of regular season.


The Mariners opened the scoring in the 32nd minute to Rose with the Wanderers responding through Topor-Stanley 8 minutes later to level up the score before halftime.

The second half was an arm-wrestle with both teams looking to find the net one more time.


Popovic put on Shinji Ono in the 75th minute, but he still couldn’t spark the Wanderers.


Three minutes after Yousseff Hersi came off, the Mariners were able to snatch the win with a goal from Ibini-Isei in the 89th minute.

With only two rounds left, the result proved to be quite vital for both teams with it having an impact on the final positions on the ladder. The contrasting reactions from Phil Moss and Tony Popovic were further examples of how crucial the result was as the Mariners have taken second place from the Wanderers.


 The Wanderers play their last home game next round against the competition leaders Brisbane Roar next Saturday.
