The Western Sydney Wanderers have qualified for the semi finals of the Asian Champions League overnight, after a 2-1 loss to Guangzhou Evergrande in China was enough to progress, based on away goals.
There is no denying that Ante Covic kept his side in the game last night. Saving a crucial penalty in the first half as well as other on target shots, Covic was able to keep his team 0-0 going into the break.
The second half saw the Wanderers struggling to hold their own. But when Mark Bridge was taken out by keeper Zeng, Tomi Juric stood up to take the penalty to put his team ahead 1-0. Soon after, the defending champions equalized and then found the winning goal in injury time. However, the 2-1 win at home was not enough to send the champions through to the semis.
The Wanderers will now play their first leg against FC Seoul next month before the second leg in early October.
