The Western Sydney Wanderers are one step closer to closing out the Asian Champions League title after a 1-0 victory over Al-Hilal tonight at Pirtek Stadium.
With both teams unable to covert opportunities in the first half, it was essential that the Wanderers put points on the board after the half time break. The goal came in the 64th minute with a strike from Tomi Juric to get the Wanderers in the lead in front of a capacity crowd and Wanderers home game record of 20 053.
The visitors had an endless amount of opportunities to convert their plays into vital away goals but it was Wanderers goal keeper Ante Covic who stood between them and the lead as he had an incredible night, saving all that came his way in an important win for the black and red.
It is fair to say that there is still a long way to go and a long trip ahead, but there is no doubt that the Wanderers should be extremely proud of how far they have come in this competition and the impact it is having on soccer in Australia.
The Wanderers now take the lead into the second leg in Saudi Arabia next Saturday to complete the final stage of the competition.
