The Western Sydney Wanderers suffered another defeat against the Melbourne Victory at Pirtek Stadium last night.
After a last minute victory against Melbourne City during the week, the Wanderers were looking to secure back to back wins for the first time this season, but the Victory thrashed the hosts with a comprehensive 3-nil win.
The Wanderers began their seventh game in 20 days looking weary and the Victory capitalised mid way through the first half with a goal by Besart Berisha, assisted by a beautiful cross from former Bordeaux midfielder, Fahid Ben Khalfallah.
The Wanderers almost had an instant reply with a shot by Nick Kalmer crashing into the side net after a few saves from Melbourne’s keeper, Nathan Coe. The hosts went into the break 1-nil down.
The second half saw Popovic’s men crumble as a well-drilled Victory team scored two goals, with a clinical finish from Archie Thompson and Berisha sealing the win in the 82nd minute.
Western Sydney’s hectic schedule continues with their next match to be played in South Korea against Seoul FC this Wednesday night.
