Wanderers slump to the bottom of the A-League

  • Wanderers slump to the bottom of the A-League

A second string Wanderers team could not hold off a full strength Jets team as Western Sydney went down 2-1 at Pirtek Stadium yesterday.

The young Wanderers side started the match strong with Joshua Sotirio creating multiple chances for his side to open the scoring account within 20 minutes…but that was it for the first half.

Newcastle Jets imports, Enver Alivodic and Lee Ki-Ji were able to slot the ball past an out of sorts Ante Covic twice in the first half giving the visitors a 2-0 advantage going into the break.

The second half was a reflection of the first. The Wanderers tried to produce smart attacking football but the inexperience showed with intercepted passes and off-target shots.

The RBB finally erupted as Nick Kalmar took a screaming free kick, which was placed in the bottom right corner leaving Jets Keeper, Ben Kennedy stunned.

That was the only goal of the second half and the visitors held on to claim the three points leaving the Asian Champions anchored to the bottom of the A-League.

The Wanderers will now travel to Brisbane to play their next A-League Fixture against the Roar on Wednesday night.
