A late conceded goal by Western Sydney gave their opponents, Perth Glory a crucial three points in their bid to chase down competition front runners, the Wellington Phoenix.
The Wanderers travelled to Perth in high spirits after their comprehensive win in Brisbane and with only four rounds left of the regular season the red and black were pushing for back to back away wins for the first time this season.
Western Sydney showed form with a strong start and scored the only goal of the first half with a stunning effort by Romeo Castelen, giving the ex Dutch international his second goal for the club. The visitors held on to go 1-nil into the break.
The second half saw both teams create crucial opportunities and Perth capitalised with two goals, taking the lead with 20 minutes left, but Popovicís men hit back immediately with Wandererís mid-fielder, Iacopo La Rocca setting up Kerem Bulut to score the equaliser.
The Wanderers were about to claim a point against the fourth placed Glory, but the home side broke through some poor defence and scored the winning goal in the 88th minute, leaving the Wanderers and their travelling fans heart broken.
