The Western Sydney Wanderers lost 1-nil against Central Coast Mariners in a disappointing game at Bluetongue Stadium last Saturday.
The Wanderers travelled to the central coast in search of their fourth win of the season and the game began with the home side scoring within two minutes.
After a foul by Wanderers defensive player, Jonathan Aspropotamitis, the Mariners made the visitors pay with quick ball work and a beautiful through ball by Anthony Kalik to give his left back, Joshua Rose space to slot the ball in the bottom left corner.
The Wanderers pushed and constructed great attacking football and created some chances but could not score.
The second half was the same for both teams as the Wanderers were on the hunt for the equaliser and the Mariners held defensively to deny any possibility of the Wanderers securing any competition points.
The lost leaves the Western Sydney Wanderers anchored to the bottom of the A-League ladder. With four rounds left of the regular season last year’s grand finalists are favourites to claim the wooden spoon.
The Wanderers next match is against fourth placed Adelaide United at Pirtek Stadium on Saturday.
